1996 - 1.5L Cabernet Sauvignon Heller Estate
81% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Pinot Noir, 5% Cabernet Franc, 3% Malbec, <1% each Merlot, Petite Sirah and Petit Verdot
Cassis and blackberry greet the palate while some slightly earthy and juicy characteristics mingle beautifully with the dry, dusty tannin structure. Pair this wine with a juicy hamburger topped with sauteed mushrooms and some nice aged cheddar cheese.
Tasting notes
This wine won a gold medal in the West Coast Wine Competition 2004. It has predominately blackberry / blueberry, with spicy oak / cedar wood notes and slight hints of mocha. Also, it is very firm in texture, with sweet spices surrounding a core of dark fruit/ripe currant flavors. Balanced, fine grain tannins that build nicely into a chewy finish
Production notes
2001 was a normal growing season, by all accounts. Moderate Spring temperatures with even hot spells in the Summer produced well ripened, sound fruit
